EXPERIENCE

Design Engineer                                                                                                               2007-Present

GE Transportation Systems, Erie, PA                    

        Conducted start up testing on new CPU card prototypes ensuring functionality prior to production.

        Worked with the consolidated function display (CFD) software team as well as the chip manufacturer to quickly fix the graphics chip. Allowed the software team to continue developing the graphics software.

        Conducted EMI testing and redesigned the powersupply circuit to reduce the conducted EMI emissions by 50%. It now meets the requirements set in MIL-STD-461D for conducted emissions.

        Developed FPGA logic to generate IGBT firing patterns for a one-megawatt variable frequency drive to reduce the utilization of the CPU, saving the project from a costly redesign.

        Currently mentoring a GE Sponsored FIRST Robotics team. Responsible for teaching students how to efficiently program the robot.

 

Engineering Internship                                                                                            2004- 2007

GE Transportation Systems, Erie, PA                    

        Managed 2 other interns to create the initial software for the BrightStar Sirius Locomotive Controller HITL Simulator.

        Worked closely with a Six-Sigma Black Belt to develop a method for cleaning IGBT heatsinks in the field becoming plugged with dirt and debris to improve reliability. Later assisted in the redesign of the heatsinks to further improve performance

        Developed and executed a test procedure for determining the water consumption rate on lead acid batteries to ensure the batteries would meet the extended 230 day maintenance schedule.
